The “Gonokendra” (GK) project has initiated in place of Continuous Adult Education Centre (CAEC) activities since 2008. The project is supported by Bandhab/Danida, which has been implementing at 2 Upazilla, 25 GK at Bagerhat, 25 GK at Panchbibi, Joypurhat district. A total of 1293 members have been enrolled in these 50 GKs

The objective of the project is the villagers in the target area are active in decision-making processes at grass-root level and have sufficient knowledge and skills to identify common needs, organize themselves and find common solutions for improving their lives.

The project has been providing the following activities:

– A total of 50 Gonokendra has been established and functioning of which 37 are female, 8 are male and 5 is male-female mixed group.
– Module was developed on Environment, Addiction, Reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, Gender etc. for discussion in the groups.
– Organized life skill training on Agriculture, Gardening, fisheries as well as health and legal aid etc.
– The representatives from each group participated in the meeting & training.
– Organized Skill training on Sewing, Block, Batik, shopping bag (paper & plastic) and sweet packet making etc.
– Formed drama group and cultural team and performed stage show at each area.
– Organized Fair (Mela) at Bagerhat and Panchbibi.
